Here’s How Google Search Console Guides My Content Creation Process
If you ever get stuck on what topic to write about next, Google Search Console itself provides the solution.
So, do you also get stuck when it comes to ideas? Well, I’m fine with this issue because when I do get an idea, it’s always attractive, creative, and super helpful for me and others as well. But sometimes, I need someone to give me a little hint so I can get my multiverse of thoughts back. 😂
Well, this issue always, or at least often happens with marketers because this is the field of ‘creative thinking.’ While I agree that other fields like designing, development, or writing also depend on creative thinking and creativity in their work, the life of a marketer is different. Our thinking work is far more different from that of writers and designers. We have to think in a way that our graphs don’t get disturbed, our strategies stay within the plan our client needs, expectations aren’t hurt, and our budget remains manageable.
So many factors and elements to take care of!
When it comes to blogging, there are so many factors to think about. Sometimes it depends on your idea, and sometimes it depends on a good keyword.
And yes, it is totally normal to get an idea but not find a good keyword for it. IT HAPPENS, CHARLEY!
Writing Without A Keyword
This is my favorite topic to discuss because it is controversial 😍
You can write and publish your blog successfully without any keywords in it. I personally do that for my blogs and my clients as well. But here’s the thing: you can ask me
Why do we need to do that?
Well, the answer is simple!
- Sometimes you are unable to find a good keyword.
- You have a good topic idea in your head.
- And your website is at the stage where you can create your own keywords.
Many SEOs say there is no point in doing that, but it’s my opinion, Google loves leveraging content. Google wants you to write on topics that no one is talking about. If you have good traffic, run newsletters, and people get notified by your content, and your social media presence is strong, then if the topic itself has potential, yes, it will be a win.
A few months back I wrote the article “How to do SEO for a website step-by-step?” Without searching anything on Google or SEMrush, I just sat and realized this big issue: no one is actually telling you what the actual process of doing SEO is. I wrote from my experience, and boom, it was a total win for me.
So, never let your topic go just because you do not have any relevant keywords for it. Write your thoughts — people love to read your perspective❤️
Utilizing Google Search Console to Inspire New Content Ideas
Now, let’s move on to the second content strategy I apply when I don’t have any content ideas. Here’s how you can do that:
Using GSC to Generate New Topic Ideas
✔️ Access the Performance Report
-Log in to GSC: Navigate to your Google Search Console account.
- Select Performance: Click on the “Performance” tab in the left-hand menu.
✔️ Identify High-Impression Keywords
- Set the Date Range: Choose a suitable date range, such as the last 3–6 months.
- View Queries: Look at the “Queries” tab to see all the search terms that brought users to your site.
- Sort by Impressions: Focus on keywords with high impressions but low clicks or those not currently targeted in your content.
✔️ Find Untapped Keywords
Analyze Queries: Identify queries that are not the primary focus of your current content but have high impressions.
- For example:
— “best vegan running shoes”
— “Trail running shoes for beginners”
— “running shoes for flat feet”
✔️ Determine User Intent and Create Content Ideas
- Best Vegan Running Shoes: If this keyword has high impressions but you don’t have a dedicated page for it, create a new topic.
— Topic Idea: Like “Top 10 Best Vegan Running Shoes for Eco-Friendly Runners in 2024”
— Content Outline: Include a list of vegan running shoes, detailed reviews, pros and cons, and links to where to buy them.
- Trail Running Shoes for Beginners: If this keyword appears often:
— Topic Idea: “The Ultimate Guide to Trail Running Shoes for Beginners”
— Content Outline: Cover the basics of trail running shoes, how to choose them, beginner-friendly options, and tips for trail running.
Etc Etc…
Now,
✔️ Utilize Related Queries
Expand on Related Queries: Look at related queries under each main query to find even more specific topic ideas.
- For example:
— Under “best vegan running shoes,” related queries might include “affordable vegan running shoes” or “most durable vegan running shoes.”
✔️ Check Performance by Page
- Pages Tab: Look at which pages are performing well and their associated queries. If a page about “running shoe reviews” is popular, identify related keywords and create complementary content.
✔️ Content Gap Analysis
- Analyze Gaps: Compare your site’s keyword data with industry trends or competitor content to find content gaps. For example, if competitors are targeting “waterproof running shoes” and you’re not, consider creating content for that topic.
✔️ Create a Content Calendar (Recommended)
Plan Topics: Based on your findings, plan out a content calendar with the new topics. Assign deadlines and outline the key points for each topic.
Overall, this strategy covers all essential steps from accessing data in GSC to generating ‘specific’ content ideas and planning them into a structured content calendar. It’s a well-rounded approach to leveraging GSC for SEO content strategy.
